So, the new Blogger has some very nice feed features-- like the search capability, and the way tags work. Love it.
However, it doesn't (yet) do everything I want. Like provide a feed of posts written by a particular author. It doesn't seem like it should be so hard-- all the information is already right there in the feed. And this seems so useful for a multi-author blog! Whether you want authors to be able to display their own posts elsewhere, or provide a quick link to their posts within the site, or maybe something else-- either way it would be useful.
But, I know the people who make Blogger do all the great things it does are pretty busy, so I guess this isn't an immediate priority...
So, I've found a work-around that at least accomplishes some of what I want.
The Google blogsearch lets you filter on post author and blog url, and you can get the search results as a feed. Here's the syntax (all on one line, of course-- split up here so you can actually read it):
The scoring=d option sorts posts by date, putting your most recent posts first.
Dubious? The "books I've read lately" section in the sidebar is currently being generated using this author feed (with a little customization for display purposes).
Go play with Google Blogsearch and make your own custom blog feed. It's easy!
